On Monday, July 18th, 2022, The From Our Town to the Moon, Mars, and Beyond exhibit will launch at the Coloma Public Library, and will run until Friday, September 2nd. This traveling exhibition will be available at only eight libraries nationwide, and the community is ecstatic that one of those is right here in Southwest Michigan!
This hands-on exhibit, meant to educate and excite the community about human spaceflight, the International Space Station, and NASA’s next big step to land the first woman on the Moon, will offer displays, STEAM activities, and will coincide with the library’s Summer Reading Program: ‘Take Me To Your Reader’ (June 20 – August 19). This learning experience will explore the differences and similarities between Earth, the Moon, and Mars, how we’re getting there, how we’ll live there, what we’ll learn, and more.
Coloma Library Director Mary Harrison is bursting with anticipation for the coming events, eagerly saying, “Our Library is going to have a fantastic summer hosting the Moon, Mars, and Beyond Exhibit, and we are so very excited. We know the kids will love to visit us this Summer!”
The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, July 18th, and to stay afterwards for snacks and NASA swag, while supplies last. Additional space-themed and STEAM activities are scheduled at the library throughout the Summer, and you can follow the Coloma Public Library on Facebook or visit their website, colomapubliclibrary.net, for more information.
The Moon, Mars, and Beyond exhibition is offered by the National Center for Interactive Learning (NCIL) at the Space Science Institute (SSI) in partnership with Education Development Center (EDC), and is supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
