Indiana Michigan Power is planning to invest $66 million to enhance the electrical network in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and St. Joseph County, Indiana. It says it’s launching its new Niles Area Transmission Improvements Project, which involves upgrading or expanding three substations, building two new substations, and building 3.5 miles of high-voltage transmission line to connect the new substations to the network. Crews plan to complete the project in three phases, with construction beginning next fall finishing in the spring of 2024. In-person open houses for the Niles Area Transmission Improvements are scheduled later this month for everyone to learn more. One will be at the Grand LV in Niles on Wednesday, March 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. The other will be in South Bend March 31. I&M spokesperson Mona Livingston says the upcoming investment will “enhance reliability for decades to come in the Michiana area and support our area’s economic and residential growth.”
