The St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation is announcing the release of its 2022 Common Application Form for scholarships available to students of the St. Joseph High School Class of 2022.
Two new scholarships have been added to the Foundation’s program:
— one funded by Dr. Gyl Kasewurm’s Professional Hearing Services which honors former Foundation President Bill Marohn, and
–one funded by The Abdelnour Family which highlights volunteer service to the community.
The additions bring the program’s total to eleven $5,000 scholarships available per class.
Shawn Kim, Chairman of the scholarship program commented, “we are thrilled to add two new scholarships and are very grateful to all of our donors who believe in furthering the education of students. Foundation scholarships may be used for tuition, fees, books and on-campus housing.”

Applications for the scholarships are due February 22, 2022 by 3:00 pm in the SJHS Guidance Office.
The Scholarships available are:
Paul W. and Rose Suchovsky Memorial Scholarship– Edward Todd wishes to honor the memory of his mother and stepfather, Paul and Rose Suchovsky, by establishing this scholarship to assist graduating seniors from St. Joseph High School who wish to pursue a college degree. Paul and Rose Suchovsky were business people and entrepreneurs who appreciated the important role business plays in building communities and providing opportunities. This scholarship is intended to recognize the excellence and leadership of St. Joseph High School students who wish to apply those traits to the study of business, engineering or law. A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to six (6) candidates.
Believe in Yourself Scholarship– The Gerbel and Kodis families have established a scholarship to assist graduating seniors from St. Joseph High School who wish to further their education by attending college. As longtime members of the community, the Gerbel and Kodis families would like to recognize students who have displayed a passion for learning, who have a desire to succeed, and who want to build on the foundation that they received through the St. Joseph Public Schools. A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to two (2) candidates.
Yeager Family Foundation Scholarship– The Yeager Family Foundation has established a scholarship to assist graduating seniors from St. Joseph High School who wish to further their education by attending college. The Yeagers would like to recognize students who have displayed a passion for learning, a desire to succeed, and who want to build on the foundation that they received through the St. Joseph Public Schools. This $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to one (1) candidate.
The Bill Marohn Leadership Scholarship funded by Dr. Gyl’s Professional Hearing Services–
Dr. Gyl Kasewurm wishes to honor her friend and mentor, William (Bill) Marohn, by establishing this scholarship to assist graduating seniors from St. Joseph High School who wish to pursue a college degree. As a man of exceptional character and a highly regarded community leader, Bill has served as a mentor for many friends and colleagues over the course of his lifetime. The Bill Marohn Leadership Scholarship will recognize student leaders who demonstrate impeccable character, kindness and leadership skills. This $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to one (1) candidate.
Spirit of Community Service Scholarship– The Abdelnour Family has established a scholarship to assist graduating seniors from St. Joseph High School who wish to further their education by attending college. Sam and Anna Abdelnour have a long history of service to others in the community. Their experiences have enriched their lives, and they wish to recognize students who also exhibit the spirit of volunteerism. The recipient of this scholarship will demonstrate a wide range of community involvement and display sincerity and passion for giving to others. This $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to one (1) candidate.
