Just in time to mark five years in business, BOSS Services has moved into a new building. The home services firm, which does heating and cooling, plumbing, and electrical work, had its first day in the new Benton Harbor location this week. BOSS Services has released the following:
Over the past 5 years, you may have spotted a bold black and white BOSS Services van in your neighborhood or next to you at a stoplight. Actually, it’s highly likely that you have been seeing their vans more often throughout the Southwest Michigan region as they have grown exponentially in just a handful of years. In fact, they are celebrating their 5th year in business this year with a monumental occasion, moving their headquarters from Coloma to the former Honda Motorsports building on M-139 in Benton Harbor next to M&W Tire. With this big move, BOSS is excited to have more room for their expanding team and more warehouse space to better serve their customers.
It’s hard to believe that only 5 years ago, BOSS Services started as two guys and one van providing heating and cooling services exclusively. Over this short period of time, owners and brothers, Jeff and Jerry Street have achieved their goals of becoming the best team of home services professionals in the area. They now have a team of nearly 40 employees with over 150 years accumulated experience and dozens of BOSS vehicles on the road providing multiple home services to the greater Southwest Michigan area, from New Buffalo to South Haven to Kalamazoo, and most recently expanding to serve Grand Rapids.
It’s not uncommon for Jeff and Jerry to be asked, “So what are the ‘services’ in BOSS Services? From the beginning, it was their goal to eventually be local homeowners’ one trusted call for a variety of home services, saving them the time and hassle of searching for a reliable company when they have an urgent need. For that reason, BOSS is proud to now provide more services under one roof than any other company in the region: Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, 1-Day Bathroom Upgrades, Electrical, Duct Cleaning, Air Purification, and more!
Reflecting on the last 5 years, Jerry Street is proud of how far BOSS has come. Having been in the HVAC industry for 25 years, Jerry has tirelessly worked over the last two decades to earn his reputation for providing the highest caliber of HVAC services and expertise.
“When I was young, school just didn’t seem to be the right path for me. I knew I wanted to make a living working with my hands, and I knew I could be successful if I put my energy into learning everything I could about HVAC,” says Jerry.
With that mentality, Jerry began working at Burkett Heating and Cooling in Stevensville when he was 16. As time passed, he became known for being one of the best HVAC professionals in the area, and his customers started requesting him by name, as many continue to do to this day.
It’s no secret that the trades are thriving in Southwest Michigan, yet there is a shortage of workers in our area. Now more than ever, BOSS feels it’s important to let young people know that while college provides great opportunities for many, it doesn’t have to be the only option if you aspire to have a successful and fulfilling long career. In fact, two years ago, BOSS Services started a summer internship for high school students who wanted to learn the trades. This past June, two of their interns graduated high school and began their careers in HVAC and plumbing at BOSS.
“The trades have been suffering for years,” says Jerry. “Not many people out of high school have the mentality of being a plumber, or a heating and air conditioning guy, or an electrician…it’s dwindled over the years, and that’s common knowledge. So at BOSS, we focus on the growth of our employees to give them a brighter future and to serve our clients better.”
From the inception of BOSS Services, the BOSS Tribe motto has been “Raising the Standard,” and Jeff and Jerry have made it a priority to passionately train their entire team on what it really means to go above and beyond what customers have come to expect from home services professionals. For this reason, Jeff and Jerry send their office staff, HVAC experts, and plumbers all over the nation for paid training (most recently sending a few employees to New Jersey in August). In 2019, they even invested in a virtual reality training platform in-house, where HVAC techs and plumbers can learn how to solve common problems in the field or enhance their current skill set.
With plans for continuous growth, BOSS is always hiring and looking for motivated individuals to serve their growing customer base.
