BCHD weekly report updates COVID numbers: going up

COVID-19 Transmission in Berrien County

Berrien County continues to see increases in the numbers of new COVID-19 cases and a rise in the percent of positive tests, showing a sustained upward trend over the last several weeks. This currently categorizes Berrien County as having “high” transmission, according to the CDC Thresholds and Indicators for Community Transmission. See more data on the trends of COVID-19 transmission through the MDHHS MI Safe Start Map.

Estimates show the highly transmissible Delta variant caused nearly 99% of recent COVID-19 cases in the United States. Predominately, the new cases recorded are amongst those yet unvaccinated. Given what we know about the Delta variant, vaccine effectiveness, and current vaccine coverage, layered prevention strategies are needed to reduce the transmission of this variant.

  • To prevent further spread of illness, we strongly recommend everyone wear masks in indoor public spaces. Layering up prevention strategies works & helps reduce COVID-19 transmission (masks, vaccines, distancing, handwashing as well as isolation, quarantine and appropriate testing if sick or exposed).

  • If you aren’t vaccinated against COVID-19, now is the time to get your vaccine. Vaccines are free, safe, easy to get, and effective. Visit www.bchdmi.org/COVID19 or call us at 800.815.5485 to find a vaccine site near you. The vaccine’s first job is to prevent serious illness or death. Cases among fully vaccinated individuals are much less likely and much milder than cases in unvaccinated people.
