Following another late night shooting in Benton Township, the community’s police department is asking the public for help in tracking down whoever was responsible for two teenagers who were shot in the 100 block of Fair Avenue, and potentially a third victim that might have left the scene.
Benton Township Police Detective Sgt. Tyler Tiefenbach says that his department was called out at 11:41pm last night, Monday, June 7th, on reports that three people had been shot, however they were only able to locate two with wounds from the fight.
Tiefenbach says that two teenagers, both male, aged 13 and 16 were taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland shortly before midnight following the shooting. The 16-year old sustained serious injuries after being shot in the stomach, while the 13-year old had been shot in the ankle.
Authorities have been unsuccessful in gaining a description of the shooter in the case and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Benton Township Police Department at (269) 925-1135, on their Facebook page or via Crime Stoppers at (574) 288-STOP.
They don’t know if a third victim was involved, or in the confusion of the aftermath the number was incorrectly stated.
Benton Township Police were assisted on the scene by the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, the Saint Joseph Department of Public Safety, the Michigan State Police and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. The case remains under active investigation.
