A total of 10 business enterprises seeking approval from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to take part in the newly established Downtown Social District in St. Joseph were given the green light to proceed this afternoon in a special meeting of the St. Joseph City Commission.
The ten bars, restaurants, and tasting rooms that have made application to the state needed to gain recommendations from the City Commission in order for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to consider their requests.
The virtual meeting of the St. Joseph City Commission barely moved past the five minute mark in duration, and resulted in a 4 to 1 vote for approval of all 10 applications with City Commissioner Jeff Richards casting the lone vote in opposition, following his decision not to back the concept of a Social District in the city’s central business district this summer.
The City Commission helped expedite the application process for the establishments by agreeing to hold the brief virtual meeting rather than making those businesses wait another couple of weeks before their next official meeting.
These are the businesses that applied for and were advanced today by the City Commission:
- 221 Main Restaurant & Cocktail House located at 221 Main Street
- Baroda Founders Wine Cellar – St. Joseph Tasting Room located at 415 State Street
- The Buck Burgers & Brew at 412 State Street

- Kingfisher Cocktails & Tacos opening soon at 210 State Street
