The proposed St. Joseph Downtown Social District which was greenlighted in a reduced format by the St. Joseph City Commission several weeks ago has gained next level approval as well from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.
St. Joseph City Manager John Hodgson reports that following the City Commission’s approval of the Social District at the May 10th meeting, information was submitted to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, where, on Friday, May 21st, they accepted the plan and have added St. Joseph to the list of Michigan communities that are participating in the Social District plan across the state.
The next step requires each individual license holding bar, tasting room, or restaurant to request specific permits from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, and as part of that process, each interested licensee has to ask the St. Joseph City Commission to pass a resolution recommending that the state consider approving the permit request.
In order to accommodate those businesses, the City Commission will conduct a special meeting at 2:15pm on Thursday afternoon to help expedite the process and get the Social District up and running in a timely manner.
