As we mark a full year since the global coronavirus pandemic first began relegating us all to a decidedly different homebound lifestyle, the staff and students of 1st and 2nd grades at Christ Lutheran School in Stevensville have been celebrating a milestone they weren’t sure they would be able to achieve. 100 days of in-person instruction.
On February 10th, Christ Lutheran’s 1st and 2nd grade celebrated the milestone that they admit many were unsure would ever take place when the 2020/2021 school year got underway. Mrs. Angela Webb and her class pulled out all the stops to celebrate the 100th day of in-person instruction this school year.
Students created their own celebratory masterpieces using the number 100 as the main theme. Some examples of the creativity expressed by the class include a giant sucker made from 100 lollipops, 100 Star Wars figures, a paper-chain of 100 numbered hearts stretching for more than 40 feet. The class also enjoyed theme snacks which were counted out in multiples of 10, utilizing a core math concept learned earlier in the year. Of the celebration, Mrs. Webb said, “It was epic!”
Christ Lutheran School has been in continuous in-person instruction since beginning classes in the fall of 2020. Principal Neil Webb says, “This is what is best for our students. Being in the classroom with a dedicated teacher is what children need; we have been blessed to be in-person all year.” In addition, Christ Lutheran is offering remote instruction for those students unable to attend in person. School Board Chair, Tamara Paulun, says, “This has created an incredible amount of additional work for our teachers and they have absolutely risen to the occasion. Words cannot express how grateful we are for their dedication.”
