In a year that has been anything remotely close to a normal school year, the Bridgman Public Schools Board of Education continues to be highly impressed with the work of their Superintendent, not only rating him “highly effective,” but offering up a three-year extension on his current contract through the end of June in 2023.
Bridgman Public Schools Superintendent Shane Peters garnered the “highly effective” rating during his annual performance review with the Bridgman Board this week, followed by the board unanimously agreeing to the three-year extension on his current contract.
School officials say this year has been a challenging year and required quick changes to the way learning was administered, adding that with the outbreak of COVID-19, Peters responded quickly to create and execute a COVID-19 Pandemic Plan. They add that working closely with his administration, plans, policies, strategies and procedures were developed to keep the staff safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also worked with building and district administrators to develop plans, policies, strategies and procedures to address students’ academic, social and emotional needs during the pandemic.
Bridgman Public Schools successfully opened the 2020/2021 school year with face-to-face instruction, and Peters developed plans, policies, strategies and procedures with building and district administrators to ensure that staff and students could safely return to face-to-face instruction. He met with staff members and groups to address any issues or concerns they had about returning to face-to-face instruction. The plans were successfully executed in the fall of 2020 and face-to-face instruction has continued except for the recent statewide restriction on High Schools.
Board members say that Peters has continued to provide ongoing communication with students, parents and the community, and has led many initiatives to help improve the morale of students and staff involving the community in many of these initiatives.
The Bridgman Board of Education has issued a public thank you to Superintendent Peters for “his continued service, dedication and leadership of Bridgman Public Schools,” and also thanked all of the staff for their continued support and hard work.
In a board statement they concluded, “The Bridgman Board of Education is excited to have Mr. Peters as the Superintendent of Bridgman Public Schools. The Board of Education values our community for their continued support and we are excited about the future of Bridgman Public Schools.”
