Berrien Judge LaSata Elected Officer to Michigan Judges Association

Longtime Berrien County Circuit Court Judge and former Michigan Legislator Charles LaSata has been elected as an officer of the Michigan Judges Association.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday September 15th, 2020, the Berrien County Judge drew the assignment, by the largest judicial organization in the State of Michigan. The Michigan Judges Association has more than 200 member judges who serve on the Circuit Court and the Court of Appeals. The association routinely advocates for an independent judiciary and works to maintain the integrity of the Courts in the three branch system of government in Michigan. They also act as a resource to the legislative and executive branches and work to provide continuing education for all Michigan Judges.

Judge LaSata has been on the Board of the Michigan Judges Association for more than ten years now, and presently serves as co-chair of the organization’s Legislative Committee. Judge LaSata will serve as the Treasurer of the association in 2021.

Prior to joining the Berrien Bench in January of 2005, LaSata was a Legislator in Lansing, serving as 79th District State Representative from 1999 to 2004, and served on the St. Joseph City Commission from 1991 to 1995 and as Mayor of the city from 1994 to 1998. He spent 14 years with the St. Joseph law firm of Bittner, Hyrns, LaSata and Riemland from 1988 to 2002.

In the Berrien County judicial photo accompanying this story on Moody on the Market, LaSata is second from the right in the back row.
