For the first time in state history, the Berrien County Clerk will serve as President of the Michigan Association of County Clerks. Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler has been elected to that role for 2021 following a recent virtual meeting of the association, making history as the first clerk from our county to be elected to that position.
Clerk Tyler says, “It’s an honor and privilege to represent the County Clerks in Michigan.” She has been on the Board of Directors for the last three years and has been actively involved since 2013 on the MACC Legislative Committee and Council of Election Officials Board, which is a combination of Michigan County Clerks and local clerks. She serves on several other MACC Committees as well. She tells us, “The position will not take me away from my duties as the Berrien County Clerk, but will strengthen my knowledge and abilities as the County Clerk.” She is also a member of the United County Officers Association of Michigan.
The MACC Board of Directors is made up of County Clerks from five districts and covering all 83 counties in Michigan. The MACC creates a closer networking relationship among the County Clerks throughout the State; and serves to promote a better understanding of the duties of the Office of County Clerk, which are governed by statute, or otherwise invoked for administering the office. MACC takes pride in education, training and promoting growth among all County Clerks.
Sharon Tyler has been the Berrien County Clerk since 2013, and was previously a Michigan State Representative for the 78th District 78 and after serving as the Executive Director of the Southwestern Michigan Economic Growth Alliance in Niles for 11 years.
