Travelers along M-40 in Van Buren and Allegan Counties will be subject to the “orange barrel polka” beginning next week and running well into September as the Michigan Department of Transportation undertakes resurfacing of that highway for an improved ride.
MDOT says they will invest $1.6-million in resurfacing 7.5-miles of M-40 from Baseline Road along the Van Buren/Allegan County line northward to M-89 in the city of Allegan.
The project is slated to begin next Monday, June 1st with an estimated completion date of Friday, September 25th.
MDOT cautions that lane closures will be in effect throughout the project, as both directions of traffic will share one lane with temporary signaling devices, resulting in delayed travel times on occasion. The project is designed to improve the ride quality and extend the service life of the roadway.
This road construction project is an essential function, and MDOT says transportation workers in the field are instructed to follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines to limit their risk of getting sick.
