A 16-year old sophomore at St. Joseph High School has been tapped by the Michigan Fitness Foundation and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness Health & Sports to craft a workout video for use next Wednesday, May 6th, on All Children Exercise Simultaneously, or ACES, Day.
Breckyn Bussey, the 16 year old founder of Flippin’ For Fitness, has joined three others in assembling fun workout videos for next week’s virtual event. She teamed up with:
- Sarah Belanger Yoga
- Tammi Brummel-Fee, a Physical Education Teacher at Grandville Public Schools and former Physical Education Consultant for the Michigan Department of Education
- Casey Akenberger, Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Michigan State University
Their workouts will be joined by, Adventure Around Michigan, a creative game for families with a series of 8 activities to excite the imagination and get children moving with a Michigan theme. Here’s the detail on those activities:

The Michigan Fitness Foundation, partnering with Farm Bureau of Michigan, is inviting Michigan Families to participate by continuing the tradition of ACES Day virtually this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Breckyn says she is thrilled to help.
Breckyn is a competitive dancer with Fusion Center for Dance, a St. Joseph High School cheerleader and dance team member, a Junior Coach for Girls On the Run, and current Miss Oakland County’s Outstanding Teen. She has been promoting her platform, Flippin’ For Fitness, for over two years throughout Southwest Michigan and across the state.
Breckyn says, “My goal is to promote the importance of living a healthy lifestyle through regular physical activity and healthy eating.” She adds, “After I learned that only one-quarter of children get the needed 60 minutes of physical activity every day, I knew that advocacy work was needed in this area. We have all learned through Covid-19 just how important it is to make good choices to stay healthy to fight off illnesses. I want to help kids throughout Michigan, and beyond, to learn how to live their best, healthiest lives.”

Project ACES is an event that has been held every year since 1989 and millions of children from all over the world exercise together to promote proper health and fitness habits on that day. ACES was created by physical education teacher Len Saunders as a method of motivating children to exercise and takes place on the first Wednesday in May as part of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month along with National Physical Education Week. It has been labeled as “the world’s largest exercise class” by the media.
All resources will be posted on Michigan Fitness Foundation’s website at the link below and the Virtual ACES Day Facebook event page. Physical activity at an early age, such as walking or bicycling, helps reduce stress, heart disease, diabetes, and other obesity-related illnesses. With many families staying home to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, ACES Day offers families the opportunity to be healthy while learning about safe bicycling, walking and ways to connect as a family through physical activity.
