Nine public housing agencies from Benton Harbor to Sturgis in Michigan’s Great Southwest will share in more than half-a-million dollars in assistance under the federal CARES Act as approved by the United States Congress.
Congressman Fred Upton made the announcement today of an additional $543,000 in funding to support the nine public housing agencies across southwest Michigan in their response to the coronavirus crisis in public housing. The funding was made possible through the Supplemental Public Housing Operating Funds portion of the CARES Act, which Upton voted to approve at the end of March.
Upton says, “These funds for public housing commissions across our district will directly help better protect our families and communities,” and adds, “I’m glad to see these funds going to those in the most need. Public housing commissions face unique challenges during this pandemic, and we will continue to support them as we work together to keep all Michiganders safe.”
The following public housing agencies in Michigan’s Sixth Congressional District will receive funding:

- Saint Joseph Housing Commission, $21,039
- Sturgis Housing Commission, $17,466
- Niles Housing Commission, $55,785
- South Haven Housing Commission, $25,364
- Dowagiac Housing Commission, $44,869
- Bangor Housing Commission, $18,150
- Covert Public Housing Commission, $12,192
