Fearful SWM McDonald’s Worker Issues Plea to Reduce Risk

A McDonald’s restaurant employee working in the trenches every day in Southwest Michigan has reached out asking me to share their concern about the seeming nonchalance of far too many people in our region who come for frivolous reasons rather than true sustenance.

With restaurant take out and delivery options keeping many people on the job in order to help keep the public fed, the McDonald’s employee is happy to still have a job, but is voicing concern about the number of people seemingly out on a lark rather than in search of a meal to keep them going, wondering if those in the trenches “even count.”

Here is verbatim what the worker has shared in an appeal to be heard:

“I am concerned about the lack of compliance with the stay-at-home order. I work at McDonald’s and it seems like we don’t count. People come here for a drink or some cookies or something insignificant and definitely not essential. How can we slow the spread with non-compliant citizens? They put the restaurant’s workers in danger just because they feel like getting out of the house. Don’t know who else to contact so I thought maybe you could put the word out if you would. Thank you, Mr. Moody.”

The current Stay Home, Stay Safe executive order in place through the end of the month appeals for people to curtail all but the most essential trips, and some workers like this McDonald’s employee in Southwest Michigan feel that not enough people are taking it seriously.
