Coloma Township Voting Interrupted by Errant Driver

For the second time in eight years, an errant driver has plowed into the Coloma Township Hall. This time it happened during today’s Presidential Primary Election, and actually interrupted voting for less than an hour before order was restored.

Coloma Police Officer Dan Stuglik shared the photo accompanying this story on Moody on the Market on his Facebook page with the following caption:

“Fear not, citizens of Coloma. No one was injured during today’s accident at the township hall. Since this is the second time our building has been hit by a car we’re getting pretty good at recovering. Primary elections will resume within the hour.”

True to his word, the hole was temporarily patched with a tarp once the car was removed — all within about 45 minutes — and the polls were re-opened to voters at the Township Hall.

One person suggested guard rails be erected along the edge of the parking lot, since the building was struck in the same spot some eight years ago according to township police. That was on an ordinary day, not an election day.

This photo, with the car still stuck in the building’s wall, was shared on Facebook by Dale Owen of Coloma.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt in today’s creation of a drive-thru voting opportunity at the Township Hall which is located at 4919 Paw Paw Lake Road.
