In case you didn’t know, January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. In a bid to do their part in raising awareness of the crisis, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officers are joining forces with other Midwestern states next week to help the fight against human trafficking.
Starting next Monday, January 13th and running through Friday the 13th, those Motor Carrier Officers will join with their colleagues in the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Illinois State Police, and Indiana State Police, along with the organization Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) to educate motorists about the signs of human trafficking and to enforce laws that crack down on traffickers.
Capt. Michael Krumm, Commander of the Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforecement Division says, “We are striving to raise awareness and educate those individuals in positions to observe human trafficking taking place, such as commercial motor vehicle drivers, public transportation companies, rest area attendants and truck stop employees.” Krumm adds, “You are a force multiplier that can act as the eyes and ears of Michigan’s highways.”
The Michigan State Police first partnered with Truckers Against Trafficking in 2015 and has since been recognized as a national leader in human trafficking awareness and education. For more information about TAT, you can visit at this link: http://truckersagainsttrafficking.org
