SWM Civil Air Patrol Hosting Monday Open House

If you have college or military aspirations, especially in the realm of the aviation and aerospace industries or simply yearn for leadership training and opportunities, the Southwest Michigan contingent of the Civil Air Patrol would like to see you at their upcoming Open House at Southwest Michigan Regional Airport next Monday evening.

Wolverine Composite Flight is made up of members from Michigan’s Great Southwest, who bring great pride in their community to their tasks, and give back to the community through multiple events each year in addition to being ready 24/7 to respond to missing aircraft and other federal and state assigned missions.

Senior Member Amanda Rodgers is inviting everyone to discover the opportunities of the Civil Air Patrol in our region at the Monday evening Open House which starts at 7pm on Monday, October 21st, 2019. The Southwest Michigan Regional Airport Terminal at 1123 Territorial Road in Benton Harbor is hosting the event.

The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is a year-round program where Cadets focus on aviation and aerospace education, leadership training, physical fitness and moral leadership while wearing their uniform properly and challenging themselves and their peers to new limits. Rodgers says, “If you’re dreaming about a career in leadership, aviation, space, engineering, or the military, CAP’s Cadet Program is for you.”

To become a cadet, you must be at least 12 years old and not yet 19 years old. Cadets meet 2 hours per week and one Saturday per month, on average, and also have opportunities to attend leadership encampments, career academies, and other activities throughout the year, and the Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

For those with college or military aspirations, there are thousands of dollars available for college scholarships, and for cadets who enter the military after their work with the Civil Air Patrol, there is the possibility they may be eligible to receive a higher starting rank based on their Civil Air Patrol experience.

Even if you can’t make it to the open house but have an interest in pursuing options, you can email that interest to gschrad@comcast.net. You can learn a lot more about the local squadron by clicking the link below regarding the Wolverine Composite Flight team:
