South Haven Rotarians Protect Historic Scott Club Bldg

A more than 125 year old building in South Haven, already on the Michigan Historic Site roster, is gaining some critical protection thanks to a civic organization in town willing to step up and help secure the building’s future safety.

The Rotary Club of South Haven has funded the installation of a fire detection system at the historic Scott Club building. That stately Queen Anne style building, constructed 126 years ago in 1893, is a Michigan historic site. The fire detection system facilitates the immediate notification of the fire department.

This is the second installation of a state-of-the-art fire detection system in a historically important building funded by the Rotarians. The first was at the Historical Association of South Haven, formerly Hartman School, back in 2017.

The $5,000 award for the Scott Club project was made possible thru a matching grant from the Rotary District 6360 Foundation.

In the photo accompanying this story on Moody on the Market, an employee of Secur Alarm of Grand Rapids is shown installing a fire detection head in the auditorium of the Scott Club. Pictured is one of two stained glass windows manufactured in Austria that have graced the building since the 1890s. The photo is courtesy of Tom Renner of South Haven.
