If you truly want to capture the essence of a community, you should get out of your car and take a walking tour. If you really want to capture the subtleties that make a community architecturally rich, you should take that walking tour with a renowned architect and preservationist.
Good news. You have exactly that opportunity coming your way at the end of the month when native son Stephen Byrns returns home to St. Joseph from the Big Apple to lead just such a tour.
On Saturday, August 31st, 2019, Byrns will be leading a historic neighborhood walking tour on getting underway at 10:00 am. Stephen is an architect and preservationist who has been based in New York City since 1978. He was appointed by Mayor Bloomberg to be a NYC Landmarks Preservation Commissioner from 2001-2010.
Byrns is a native of St. Joseph, the son of Chester and Priscilla Byrns, and a graduate of Princeton and Columbia Universities. This tour will last about an hour and a half and emphasize architecture and local history. The cost is $15.00 per person with only 30 tickets available.
