Greenbush Brewing Takes Three Golds Just Ahead of 8th Anniversary Party

The craft brewing industry descended on Frankenmuth in Southeast Michigan a few days ago and when they did one of the more prominent labels in the crowd turned out to be our friends and neighbors from Berrien County at Greenbush Brewing Company in downtown Sawyer.

The prolific team came away from the 2019 World Expo of Beer with three Gold Medal victories for some of their favorite brews on the market, just in time for their upcoming 8th Anniversary Party in Sawyer. More on that in a moment.

The World Expo of Beer is a beer sampling extravaganza that took place May 17th and 18th, 2019 in Frankenmuth’s Heritage Park. Hosted by the Frankenmuth Jaycees, the World Expo of Beer is a stellar fundraiser for the community and proceeds are donated to charitable causes. The Expo was preceded a month earlier with the official competition among 803 total entries world wide, and Greenbush emerged with three of the top wins.

A Bay City brewer, Lumber Baron’s Brewery copped the Best of Show honors with their 1842 Pilsner, but Greenbush won three golds out of the 41 categories overall. In the Specialty IPA category, Greenbush’s Anger IPA took the Gold among 34 competitors. In the Strong Belgian category, the Greenbush entry of 1825 won the Gold among 14 competitors, and out of 50 competitors in the Wood category, Greenbush’s popular Delusion copped the Gold, beating out Bam Noire from Jolly Pumpkin in Dexter, Michigan and Upper Hand’s Old Fighter from Escanaba.

Bell’s Brewery from Kalamazoo grabbed three medals in the competition, taking Gold for their Kalamazoo Stout in the Dark British category, and a Gold for their Expedition Stout and Silver for their Porter in the American Porter & Stout category.

Saugatuck Brewing’s Oval Beach got Silver in the Pale Commonwealth category, second to Traverse City’s North Peak Brewing’s entry of Diabolical which took the Gold.

The medal competition was conducted on April 20th at the Frankenmuth Farmer’s Market, but the results weren’t released until the World Expo of Beer the weekend of May 17th and 18th.

Meanwhile, back in Sawyer, Greenbush Brewing is gearing up for their 8th Anniversary Party on Mug Club Monday, June 10th. Organizers from the brewery say they’re “pulling out all the stops with live music, international street food, fire breathing and whatever else we can think of.” The brewery was launched in June of 2011.

The music starts at 5pm that night, but a broad array of beers starts at 11am, “otherwise known as lunch.”

With tongue in cheek, the Greenbush invite says, “If you’ve come to one of our anniversary parties before, don’t tell your friends otherwise we might run out of beer!”

Music from Jack Droppers & the Best Intentions and Paul Erdman will be accompanied by street foods, and small batch beers on the Greenbush Annex Patio.

You’ll find Greenbush Brewing at 5885 Sawyer Road in the heart of downtown Sawyer, right in front of the Sawyer Home & Garden Center.
