They’re beaming with pride at the Watervliet District Library and rightfully so, as the community’s Library Garden Park directly in front of the library has been honored with a major statewide award from the Michigan Nursery & Landscape Association.
The library’s Director, Sharon Crotser-Toy, tells us that the Library Garden Park has been selected as the winner of the 2018 Community Landscape Beautification Plant Michigan Green Award, and a ceremony recognizing the honor is slated for Monday afternoon, June 3rd at 3pm right in the park.
The Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association’s Community Landscape Beautification Award Program recognizes outstanding communities for their excellence in improving the physical and aesthetic environment of their neighborhoods and in raising the awareness of the positive economic growth and environmental impacts that quality landscaping brings to Michigan’s communities. Such projects are designed to enhance the visual image of the neighborhoods, improve livability, build civic pride and promote community spirit.
Since 1922, the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association is the largest and oldest statewide Green Industry Trade Association, and they represent a wide range of Michigan Green Industry businesses on legislative and regulatory issues, education and events, certification programs, marketing and promotion, as well as member-only money saving programs. With 55-percent of their Michigan business members posting gross sales of $299,999 or less, they specialize in the needs of the small business while representing all business sizes in a wide range of Green Industry segments from garden centers to irrigation specialists, from growers and nursery production to public gardens, landscape contractors and arborists.
The economic impact of Michigan’s nursery, perennial plant production, Christmas tree, sod producers, landscaping and lawn care industries is $5.715 billion. With perrenial plant distribution channels to 35 states, Mexico and Canada, they are the number one specialty crop in Michigan, the 4th largest agriculture commodity group in the state, and the 4th largest nursery industry in America.
Library Director Sharon Crotser-Toy invites everybody to join the celebration at the Watervliet District Library Garden Park at 3pm on June 3rd at 333 N. Main Street in Watervliet. She asks that everybody help spread the word to boost the turnout for the award ceremony.
