Have you ever had the opportunity to taste fresh foods prepared over molten glass and fire? If you said yes, there’s an excellent chance you’ve been to one of the more than a dozen Extinguish the Fire events at Water Street Glassworks in the Benton Harbor Arts District over the years. If you said no, then this is your chance to do so as the team at the Glassworks celebrates 15 amazing years at the epicenter of the Arts District at the end of the month.
Water Street Glassworks will celebrate with their major fundraising event of the year: Extinguish the Fire on the evening of May 31st, when guests have the opportunity to experience a glassblower’s ritual. Extinguish the Fire is an annual affair when the team at the Glassworks empties the furnace for the summer. Chef Tim Sizer, of Timothy’s Restaurant in Union Pier, will return again to prepare the evening’s delicious fare over molten glass and fire.
Proceeds from the event help keep the fires burning at Water Street Glassworks. Their goal is to purchase a new, energy efficient furnace and launch an outdoor hot shop, which will allow them to provide summer glassblowing experiences to students, the community, and tourists alike. Funds from Extinguish the Fire will help match dollars that have been awarded through several grants for those projects.
This delectable food performance and fundraising event is a popular attraction every year. Tickets are $100 per guest. Tables are available for $600 (6 guests) and include limited edition signature glasses designed exclusively for the event. Water Street Glassworks is a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) school and public access studio, located in the Benton Harbor Arts District offering classes in the glass and metal arts, exhibitions, and events for all ages. Following nine years of building renovations and studio equipment construction combined, WSG opened its doors to the public in January 2004 and is an established educational anchor in the Benton Harbor Arts District. They also create partnerships with other educational entities so they can foster community renewal; renewal that stems from collaborating with other community arts programs.
