Unless you have an overwhelming need to employ them as bumper guards at your boat dock, there’s probably not a lot of good happening with those old tires that are hanging around your back yard or your garage and you really should consider getting them properly recycled. Fortunately for folks in Berrien County, the Berrien County Parks Department is slating a tire recycling time next month in Benton Harbor.
Jill Adams, Environmental Property Manager for the Berrien County Parks & Recreation Department says if you’ve got old tires sitting around, taking up space in your garage or collecting water in your backyard, her team is ready to help you unload them safely.
Berrien County residents can bring tires to the Spring Scrap Tire Collection event on Thursday, May 9th from 3 pm to 7 pm and on Friday, May 10th, from 8:30 am to 11 am for safe and proper handling. Please note, however, there will be no early drop offs.
The collection takes place at the Berrien County Road Department located at 2860 E. Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor. All collected tires will go to Deerpath Recyclers in Dowagiac.
There is a fee of $1/passenger tire; $2/passenger tire on the rim; $5/semi-truck tire; $10 and up/oversize and loader tire. This event is coordinated by the Berrien County Parks Department and is open to Berrien County residents only. Tires from businesses are not accepted at this community event.
