Wightman Hosts Sustainability Issues Legislative Forum Next Week

In a day when the availability and sustainability of critical natural resources remains high on the list of concerns across the region, the state and the nation, a key forum is slated for next week to discuss those concerns and how we can survive them and thrive into the future.

Michigan’s Great Southwest Sustainable Business Forum will meet for the 9th Annual Sustainability Issues Legislative Forum on Friday, April 19th from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at Wightman in Benton Harbor.

This year’s keynote speaker is David Konkle, current president of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association and one of the state’s leading experts on clean energy development. Konkle served as the Ann Arbor Energy Coordinator for 20 years, leading local efforts to increase energy efficiency and utilize renewable energy. He has worked with the Michigan Community Energy Management grant program for the past four years providing energy services for local governments and schools. His recent projects include installing 22 public electric car charging stations in downtown Ann Arbor and writing the Michigan Community Solar Guidebook.

Other speakers on the docket include:

  • City of St. Joseph Mayor Mike Garey
  • Berrien County State Rep. Pauline Wendzel
  • Peter Ross Dickow, West Michigan Region Director for U.S. Senator Gary Peters

Each of those speakers will share how their offices are forwarding sustainability in Michigan’s Great Southwest.

The luncheon costs $15 for members if registered online (or $20 at the event), and $20 for future members if registered online (increased to $25 at the event). Everyone is welcome to attend.
