PGA Pro Readies for Homecoming to Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club in BH

A homecoming of sorts is in the making at Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club. Just days after bidding farewell to longtime club pro Wayne “Gooch” Yamaguchi, the popular club has announced the hiring of Paul Cornwell to be their PGA Director of Golf.

Cornwell is a native of Southwest Michigan who was most recently PGA Head Professional at Lochmere Golf Club/The Preserve at Jordan Lake in Durham, North Carolina. He will start at Lake Michigan Hills in mid-March.

Cornwell is a 20 year PGA Member and has previously worked at The Moors Golf Club, Briar Leaf Golf Club, Sand Creek Golf Club, Dick’s Sporting Goods and as the girl’s golf coach at Lakeshore High School. He’s returning just in time for the 50th anniversary year of Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club on Kerlikowske Road in Benton Harbor.

Cornwell was born and raised in Southwest Michigan and says he is excited to return home. He and his wife Ruth have been married for 27 years and have two daughters; Kaitlin who is finishing up her second year at Charleston Law School and Kari who is graduating this year from Grand Valley State University near Grand Rapids.

Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club is a premier golf course and banquet facility in Benton Harbor. The course consistently earns Golf Digests’ Best Places to Play and Readers Choice Awards.
