He was recruited fresh off of his hospital residency and has been a staple on the medical scene in Michigan’s Great Southwest ever since. Now, after 43 years of service to patients in Cass County and the southeast quadrant of Berrien County, Dr. Neil See is hanging up his stethoscope, swapping it out for a five-iron.
Dr. See, a longtime primary care physician for the region is retiring as the New Year arrives on our doorstep.
Originally from Grinnell, Iowa, the good doctor received his Doctorate of Family Medicine from The University of Iowa Medical College in 1972. Then, following his residency, Dr. See was recruited to begin his career with what was called at the time the Cass Medical Clinic. That was in 1975, and the clinic is now known as the Cassopolis Family Clinic Network (CFCN). While the name and ownership of the organization has changed, Dr. See’s commitment to his patients and to the community has remained steadfast over those more than four decades in a white coat.
As he preps for retirement, Dr. See has reflected on his career at CFCN, saying, “I’ve practiced family medicine in Cassopolis and Niles for 43 years, and have taken care of multiple generations of some families.” While Dr. See loved caring for patients of all ages, working with geriatric patients has always had a special place in his heart. Along with caring for his patients at the Health Center, Dr. See has also cared for more than 200 patients of 3 local nursing homes per month.
Regarding the decision to retire, Dr. See says, “I look forward to retirement and the ability to spend more time with my family, traveling, and a few rounds of golf. I will however miss my patients, the individuals I have cared for the four decades I have been at the Health Center.” He also thanks his wife Shirley and family, the CFCN Board of Directors, administration, staff and patients for their continuous support throughout his career.
