A Benton Harbor man wanted in a double murder early today in the city is the subject of a wide area manhunt amid fears that he may be trying to escape to Indianapolis.
Benton Harbor Public Safety Officers are asking for the public’s help in tracking down 40-year old Antwan Tamon “Tank” Mims, who they say should be considered armed and dangerous.
Mims has been implicated in an early morning incident at 996 LaVette Street in the city of Benton Harbor when they were called out in response to a shooting complaint. Two men who had been shot were found at that address and rushed to Lakeland Hospital, but both died en route to the hospital from their gunshot wounds.
The victims in the case have been identified as 22 year old Cortez Miller and 29 year old Michael Johnson.
Mims, who is pictured in the photo accompanying this story on Moody on the Market.com is believed to be attempting to flee the area, possibly headed to Indianapolis. Police are actively searching for him and warrants are pending in the case.
Benton Harbor authorities in the case have been assisted by the Michigan State Police Major Crimes Unit, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and the Berrien County Homicide Task Force.
