Faced with a potential burn hazard involving hot liquids, Whirlpool Corporation today has announced the recall of nearly 90,000 KitchenAid electric kettles sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In concert with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Whirlpool has identified the products as 1.7-liter electric kettles under the KitchenAid brand in which the safety hazard stems from the handle, which can loosen and separate from the kettle, potentially causing hot contents to spill, posing a burn hazard.
Some 89,000 units are under recall, including 40,200 sold in the United States, another 47,300 units sold in Canada and the remaining 1,600 units were sold in Mexico.
This recall involves KitchenAid 1.7 Liter Electric Kettles that were sold in stainless steel, red, black, white, liquid graphite and cocoa silver. Model numbers and serial numbers are located on the bottom of the kettle. KitchenAid is written on the front of the kettles. A complete list of model and serial numbers included in this recall is posted on the firm’s website at http://repair.whirlpool.com.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission calls for the defective units to be replaced. The recall went into effect today, and says concerned customers can contact Whirlpool Corporation at 800-874-0608 from 8am to 8pm ET Monday through Friday, or online at http://repair.whirlpool.com for more information.
