From Christmas Eve until well past New Year’s, Michigan’s Great Southwest racked up considerable snowfall, and then came last week’s amazing thaw. Well, the rollercoaster ride continues, folks…with a new Winter Weather Advisory ready to go into effect at 10pm tonight and continuing into Monday night.
While we have already reintroduced several inches of fresh new snow through most of the day Saturday, today’s sunshine delivered another seeming reprieve only to set the stage for tonight’s potential for a measurable amount of new lake effect snow overnight tonight and into Monday.
The National Weather Service office in Northwest Indiana says hazardous travel conditions are expected tonight into tomorrow as a clipper system moves across the area. While two to four inches of new snow is expected for most locations, the highest amounts are reserved for those of us near Lake Michigan, where their map shows 4 to 5 inches around Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. Slightly lesser amounts are expected for northwest Ohio. The peak of the event will be during the Monday morning commute. System snow will taper off late Monday afternoon but light lake effect snow will continue through early Wednesday for locations near the lake.
