We’re now barely a week away from another spoke in the foodie hub in the remarkable little village of Three Oaks, as a couple of veteran food service entrepreneurs bring you another innovative creation in the form of their new Patellie’s — a pizzeria name that is a blend of the proprietors own monikers, Pat and Ellie.
Pat and Ellie Mullins may, in fact, already be familiar to you if you venture much into, or live in, Lake Michigan’s Harbor Country. Until recently, the Mullins crew owned and operated LOCAL, the specialty food store along Red Arrow Highway that brought tons of high-quality produce, meats and preserves from localized sources to the tables of the public at large.
While they were hopeful of capturing the delicate balancing act required to maintain both LOCAL and their new pizzeria, the logistics and pressures forced them into the decision to moth ball LOCAL in order to concentrate on their new venture at 28 N. Elm Street in downtown Three Oaks.
While LOCAL allowed them to bring the ingredients of an endless array of unique recipes to the rest of us, Patellie’s will afford Pat and Ellie the opportunity to flex their own culinary talents even as they stay true to their honest and accessible approach to wholesome food.
With their new pizzeria appropriately sporting the combination of their first names, they say it is also a symbol of their tandem effort to bring a twist to seemingly everyone’s old standby favorite — pizza.
The Harbor Country Chamber of Commerce will perform a ribbon cutting ceremony at Patellie’s next Friday, December 1st at 11:45am at 28 N. Elm Street in Three Oaks.
Patellie’s serves take-out pizza pies, hearty sandwiches, salads and other unexpected fare, such as whole-roasted chickens. Pies are offered in a 16” size or by the slice with a choice of savory toppings such as mortadella. A variety of specialty pizzas appear on the menu most notably, the Meat Pie, topped with mortadella, pepperoni and a spicy fennel sausage, which highlights Pat’s famous talent for sausage making. Customers can also sample his creativity by ordering a sausage sandwich which features a rotating house-made recipe selection.
If you’d like to order your own pizza pie or for more information about Patellie’s, you can call (269) 820-2066 or visit their Facebook page.
