Elizabeth Warren’s passion for helping others in time of crisis lives on as she shared with her entire LECO Corporation team in St. Joseph today the company’s plans to step up and assist in the rescue and recovery efforts in Houston, Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey this week.
In an inter-office memo shared publicly on Facebook late this morning, Warren, whose family founded LECO Corporation more than 80 years ago, invited colleagues and staff members at the scientific instrumentation company headquartered on Hilltop Road in St. Joseph to join the corporate effort in dispatching financial resources to those in need in Texas by explaining how the company was responding.
Warren writes, “Many of you are aware that over the weekend, Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a Category 4 Hurricane in the Southeastern Texas area, including the towns of Rockport, Houston, Corpus Christi, and Galveston among others. Heavy rainfall from this storm has caused catastrophic and crippling flooding in the area. It is currently estimated that the storm has displaced at least 30,000 people, and another 24 inches of rain is still expected for the area. Our hearts go out to those affected by this storm — including our employees, customers, vendors, and their family and friends.
As we did with Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Ike, LECO will be partnering with Convoy of Hope — a worldwide, humanitarian relief organization based out of Springfield, Missouri. Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Services team is currently on the ground in Texas distributing emergency supplies to those affected by the Hurricane and subsequent flooding. LECO made a corporate donation to Convoy of Hope this week — money that will be used for food, water, ice, hygiene kits and other needed emergency supplies that will go directly to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
For those that would like to help, LECO will be collecting monetary donations from our employees that will be transferred to Convoy of Hope at the time of our corporate donation. Donations can be turned into the HR office, or to Diane Schriner. Please make checks payable to “Convoy of Hope,” to ensure that you will receive credit for the donation for your taxes. Donations will be accepted until 5pm on September 8th.
The effects of Hurricane Harvey will be felt for months, if not years, to come. We hope you will consider joining us in helping to make a difference in this time of need.”
Elizabeth Warren is well known among colleagues and within the community for her whole-hearted humanitarian efforts on multiple fronts in times of disaster over the years. I would venture to guess that, as they have done in the past, the team at LECO would welcome public donations made out in the same manner to be included in the dispatch which will be headed from Michigan’s Great Southwest to the communities impacted in Southeast Texas in the next 10-days.
