Team Up Against Cancer Jersey Deadline is At Hand

The High School Football season is getting underway this week and the academic school year is not far behind, and that signals the return of a community wide effort to “Team Up Against Cancer” in Michigan’s Great Southwest.

As has become tradition, athletes, fans, and community members are encouraged to join the “Team Up Against Cancer” campaign across the region, but one special part of that campaign is nearing a critical deadline so you’re going to need to act fast. That deadline is this Friday, August 23rd, for those who want to order a special pink jersey for a team member to wear during the October 6th game. Committee organizer Regina Ciaravino says they still need up to 20 pink jersey orders by the close of the business day this Friday in order for the jersey vendor to be able to fulfill the order in a timely manner. Click the link for the pink jersey order form below to be a part of that effort.

The “Team Up Against Cancer” annual event is a community fundraiser dedicated to help those fighting cancer, provide information to increase awareness and the prevention of cancer, and to celebrate cancer survivors.

One of the other key ways to support “Team Up Against Cancer” is by everyone else purchasing apparel available at the special link below. All proceeds will go to assist local cancer patients in southwest Michigan and will be distributed to Berrien County Cancer Services and the Marie Yeager Cancer Center in Royalton Township. Additionally, your purchase of a t-shirt or hoodie will also admit you or the chosen wearer into all high school sporting events at St. Joseph High School during the week of October 2 to 6 this fall.

The “Team Up Against Cancer” main event is slated for Friday night, October 6th, during the St. Joseph High School varsity homecoming football game at Dickinson Stadium as they play the Niles Vikings. Gates will open at 5:00pm that night with local vendors offering a variety of pregame food with 25-percent of the sales to benefit our area cancer support organizations.

Special pink jerseys and socks will be worn by the St. Joseph football team that night in support of the fundraiser. The jerseys will be pre-ordered and sponsored by friends of family members in honor of a loved one who has or had cancer. At the end of the game, the jerseys will be presented to the sponsors by the football team.

Tribute will be paid to those affected by cancer and survivors will be saluted as they parade into the stadium during a pre-game “Survivor Walk” ceremony. After the game, anyone wearing “Team Up Against Cancer” apparel is encouraged to enter the field to form a symbolic memory “ribbon” and mark the event with a group photo.
