Crack Seal Work Will Cause Hwy Lane Closures Starting Next Week

Road crews will be out in force across the region beginning next week as they prepare to invest more than half-a-million dollars doing crack-sealing work on nearly 100 miles of state trunkline in five counties throughout Michigan’s Great Southwest.

Beginning next Wednesday, May 17th, Michigan Department of Transportation workers are planning $547,000 worth of work along 93-miles in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties as well as work in Kalamazoo and Calhoun Counties to the east of us.

The long overdue roadwork will force single-lane closures for construction and traffic will be maintained under flag control along the affected routes. Portions of these roads will get the crack-sealing work between May 17th and June 30th:

  • I-94
  • I-196
  • M-63
  • M-60
  • M-331
  • M-89

Here are project details according to MDOT spokesman Nick Schirripa:

  • Southbound I-196 from Coloma Road in Hagar Township, Berrien County, to 24th Street in Covert Township, Van Buren County.
  • M-63 from Dozer Drive to Midway Avenue in St. Joseph, Berrien County.
  • M-60 from Leet Road in Howard Township to Stone Lake Drive in LaGrange Township, Cass County.
  • M-331 (South Westnedge Avenue) from Kilgore Road to Michigan Avenue (M-43/I-94 BL) in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County.
  • M-89 from 42nd Street in Ross Township, Kalamazoo County, to West Michigan Avenue in Bedford Township, Calhoun County.
  • I-94 between 12th Street in Texas Township, Kalamazoo County, and the Kalamazoo/Van Buren county line.
