Beauty & Sustainability at Harbor Shores

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Harbor Shores played exceptionally well on television again this year to a worldwide audience at the 2016 Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid. The stunning visuals from the Championship were repeatedly commented on by viewers everywhere for the amazing transformation the golf course has provided to the local community.

Now, to peek behind the curtain at that glorious tract, Michigan's Great Southwest Sustainable Business Forum will host a tour of the Harbor Shores course and facilities in a way most people never get to see it. The event is scheduled for next Monday, June 13th from 4:30 to 6:30pm. The program includes a guided tour of all 18 holes via golf carts, complimentary appetizers, networking and a presentation from course management.

Fresh off the 2016 Senior PGA Championship and the announcement to again host the event from 2018 to 2024 as its home course, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course has proven the region’s most significant redevelopment project in a generation, a compelling story of economic revitalization and environmental restoration.

Featured speaker is Managing Director Bob McFeeter and Course Superintendent Brad Fry will lead a tour. Complimentary appetizers and cash bar will be available during the cocktail hour preceding the program and guided tour, with farm-to-table dinner specials available afterward.

The course runs over remarkably diverse terrain that challenges golfers even as it offers a spectacular setting in which to play: dramatic views of Lake Michigan, the Paw Paw River, Ox Creek and its wetlands, rolling hills, ravines and a hardwood forest. Today a microcosm of the most ecologically-diverse county in Michigan, more than three million square feet of dilapidated buildings were demolished and over 140,000 tons of waste material removed from portions of the Paw Paw River and throughout the various sites on the property. In 2011 it received the Golf Course Superintendent Association of American/Golf Digest’s Environmental Leaders in Golf Award.

McFeeter currently serves as Managing Director of the Harbor Shores project and Evergreen Development and Real Estate Companies, the development and project managers of Harbor Shores. Prior to moving to Michigan in 2005, Bob was the General Manager and Project Director of the $750 million “Walsh Bay Redevelopment Project”, involving the urban redevelopment of historic Walsh Bay on Sydney Harbor, Australia. The project comprised a 25-acre waterfront residential, cultural, retail and commercial precinct. His experience includes more than forty years (40) of development management of large-scale multi-national projects in the United States, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. He has a broad range of experience in project development, project and construction management, and in general management roles.

Tickets are $20 for MGSSBF members and $30 for non-members in advance, $25 and $35 at the event. You can register online right now by clicking this link: mgssbf.org.
