In honor of the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, BOSS Services will hold its next 9/11 Hero Climb at to St. Joseph High School’s Dickinson Stadium Wednesday, September 11.

The event brings together several local first responders to honor and remember those who lost everything in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Organizer Jeff Street says the non-profit event sees participants climb 2,071 steps.

“So we wanted to take it over, we wanted to grow it, and we wanted to make it an annual event that can raise money for our local heroes,” Street said.

Starting at 8:46 a.m., mirroring the time when the first plane hit the first World Trade Tower, participants will begin their climb. There are also other ways to take part if stair climbing is a challenge for some.

“You can do the steps or you can do a 5k on the track or we’re also doing a one mile all-inclusive. So strollers, all that good stuff. Anybody that wants to just do a mile on the track, you can do that too.”

All proceeds from the event will go toward purchasing lifesaving gear for Berrien County fire departments, and the top participants will receive a medal.

Anyone can register online or on the day of the event. You can learn more right here.
