The annual BOSS Services 9/11 Hero Climb at Dickinson Stadium in St. Joseph on Wednesday is being described as a success.

The non-profit event attracted around 250 to 300 people participants, and organizer Jeff Street says it was great to see so much of the community come out to recognize first responders.

“The support that we got from the community was amazing, and we really can’t thank the community enough for putting the amount of support behind this that they did,” Street said.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of lifesaving gear for Berrien County fire departments. Street said this year they will give checks to more than a couple of fire departments in the area. He said he’s thankful for everyone that participated and supported the event.

“A lot of guys from the fire departments were out there in their turnout gear and some of the police were out there. State police, local police, they’re wearing full gear and all that good stuff.”

Participants climbed 2,071 steps at Dickinson Stadium to honor and remember those who lost everything in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
