Berrien.Life is preparing for its annual 5k walk and run this weekend to help support Emergency Shelter Services.

After having success last year in its inaugural race, organizers wanted to continue its mission of giving back to the community. Race director Brad Wurzel says he’s looking forward to doing it again this year.

“This is the second year,” Wurzel said. “The reason we started putting on was we just felt like we wanted to be able to give back to the community. So we felt like 5k is a great way to be able to fundraise for different non-profits or organizations that are helping in the community.”

In addition to the 5k race on Sunday morning, there will be Family Fun Fest at the newly constructed Sylvester Stadium that will include activities for all ages. They’ll have food trucks, emergency vehicles, inflatables, sports, and challenges.

“We felt like the 5K side is to raise money, and then the Fun Fest side is to provide just a cool community get-together. Any family who is interested in wanting to come, it’s just a time for people to be able to connect, for kids to be able to have a lot of fun, for adults even. There’s a ton of fun things for them to be able to do as well.”

The walk and 5k run begin at 9 am on Sunday, July 29. At 10 am, there will be a Family fun run, and at 10:30 will begin the family festival event.

Registration is still open for the run, and will be open until Sunday morning. To sign up, visit RunSignUp.com.
