The Michigan DNR in cooperation with the South Haven Steelheaders this week planted 250,000 King Salmon fingerlings in the Black River.
The fingerlings were placed in cages where for the next two weeks they’ll be fed and allowed to acclimate to the water temperature, etc. They’ll then be released for their journey to Lake Michigan.
The six-month-old fingerlings came from the DNR’s Wolf Lake hatchery.
It was the second planting this spring. Earlier this month 25,000 Steelhead fingerlings were planted in the Black River, also in cooperation with the Steelheaders and DNR.
