The community soup kitchen in Benton Harbor, Soup Kitchen Incorporated, has received a $10,000 donation from the Wireless Zone store in Benton Township.

Wireless Zone Director of Sales Eloy Hernandez tells us each year, owners of Verizon stores across the country submit a grant for a charity of their choice. Hernandez felt giving to the Soup Kitchen could have a big impact on the community.

“I’m glad that they were selected and know it’s a well-deserved organization that could really use those funds,” Hernandez said.

Merry Stover, director of Soup Kitchen Inc., said she was elated to hear that Hernandez wanted to donate. She emphasized how important it is for local businesses to give back to the community.

“It’s fantastic,” Stover said. “Running any non-profit, half of it is about fundraising. People that volunteer here really understand what we do and just see what it’s like.”

Hernandez will present the donation to the Soup Kitchen Inc. this Friday. Stover said they have no immediate plans to use the funds, but will be used for something.
