Retail Sales Flat & Sluggish in Latest Statewide Tally

The latest report shows 42% of store owners saw an increase over January sales, but more than half reported a sales decrease or no change.

The Michigan Retailers Association’s Andrea Bitely says they’re looking for better sales over the coming months.

“74% are expecting sales to rise through April, May, and June, which is really the peak time for folks to be shopping,” Bitely said. “It’s those warmer months when people are out and about.”

If Michigan teams do well in the NCAA tournaments, Bitely says we may see a bump in team merchandise. She also expects a bump in sales for the summer as people buy new clothing, shoes, and other travel essentials.
