Lincoln Township Library planning renovations

Some big improvements are coming to the Lincoln Township Library.

Director Joelle Wake tells us after about five years of planning, the board of directors has settled on a $1.5 million plan to update and modernize several amenities.

“Elements of the improvements include new lower shelving, fixtures for the collection to aid in patron access, new furniture that combines functionality and flexibility, new carpeting and paint, added amenities like a Coffee alcove, a digital lab and a dedicated teen space, and paint, and some enhancements to our early literacy center,” Wake said.

Wake says as the library is used by more people and for more things, they wanted to make it more comfortable, welcoming, and accessible.

“Obviously, COVID threw a wrench in everything and we kind of lost some people coming in. But slowly, we’ve been increasing and this past year alone, we had 96,000 people in the building for the year and already this past month you know we beat last month’s records.”

Wake says a closure of a few weeks may be needed when the work is done starting this fall. The library may offer curbside service while that’s happening.

Everyone will be kept in the loop as more is known.
