Midway between a Spartan loss to rival Michigan and their bounce-back win yesterday over Purdue, the King of the Spartan Nation in Michigan’s Great Southwest was gleefully receiving a spectacular hand-crafted quilt peppered liberally with the Spartan logo and a gigantic block “S” in the middle, commemorating his 50 years in business as a world-class Certified Public Accountant in our region. As his newly-merged firm of Hungerford Nichols celebrated their new location in The 800 Centre in St. Joseph, they also feted Gerbel for his half-century of service.
Cornerstone Chamber staff, ambassadors, members and guests of the Hungerford Nichols team marked the official relocation at midweek on Wednesday evening, and surprised Gerbel, his wife Carol and long time assistant Marcia Graham with the Michigan State Spartan themed quilt.
Earlier this year the Grand Rapids based firm merged with St. Joseph’s long standing Gerbel & Company, PC, anchored by Bob Gerbel. Shortly after, the firm was named as part of the Top 100 Best Accounting Firms to Work For in America by Accounting Today.
Since opening in 1941, Hungerford Nichols CPAs + Advisors employs 90 people between all three of its locations in Grand Rapids, Greenville, and St. Joseph. Additionally, the company has grown to one of the largest locally owned and independent CPA firms in West Michigan. All three locations provide a full service of accounting, business advisory, tax return prep and planning, auditing, financial planning, wealth management, business valuation and IT advisory services.
Gerbel had held court on the 4th floor of Fifth Third Bank Building in St. Joseph for decades before relocating to the new ground floor quarters at 800 Ship Street in St. Joseph. They are in Suite 108 there.
