Huge Fire, Explosions at Elkhart RV Plant

A major fire that erupted in explosions and the collapse of a manufacturing plant is rocking the recreational vehicle industry in Elkhart, Indiana this afternoon.

Authorities interviewed live on the scene have indicated that a Forest River RV Plant on Country Road 15 in Elkhart sounded the alarm shortly before 4pm this afternoon and resulted in a multi-alarm response with the city’s entire fire force on the scene battle the blaze.

The company manufactures recreational vehicles, travel trailers and other similar vehicles at that and several other Forest River plants in the region. The company draws a workforce from both sides of the state line in Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan. Smoke was seen billowing from the building fully an hour after the first alarms had been sounded, and following several explosions from inside the building it is reported to have collapsed.

Early indications were that no injuries had been reported in the fire and explosions on the scene, and the incident is a working site as the investigation continues.
